Inside an international Medusa build: Odoo, automated FX pricing and an employee purchase programme
One international platform had to connect commerce with Odoo, keep market prices aligned with exchange rates and run an employee benefit far beyond a coupon. Here is how those capabilities came together on Medusa.
Flagship case study
Reliability and integrations
- 01One-purchase rules through hosted checkoutFor one client, selected products could be purchased only once per person. We designed the checkout so that rule survives multiple carts, hosted payment and a return to the flow.Pillar · 8 min
- 02Medusa–Odoo data ownershipThe client needed Medusa and Odoo to cooperate without product content, prices and physical stock overwriting one another. We built directional flows plus the screens needed to see and repair drift.6 min
- 03ERP webhook observability in MedusaThe client needed its team to understand whether an ERP exchange changed the business, did nothing intentionally or failed halfway. Medusa exposed integration points; we built the operating history around them.6 min
- 04Safe CSV imports in MedusaThe client needed teams to move several kinds of catalogue data through spreadsheets without one ambiguous contract damaging the shop. We built separate Medusa import and export flows.6 min
International commerce
- 05Multi-currency pricing in MedusaThe client authored catalogue prices in euros but needed controlled USD and GBP prices that could be refreshed and explained later. We built the missing foreign-exchange workflow on top of Medusa pricing.6 min
- 06Multi-currency promotions in Medusa v2The client needed one campaign to use deliberate minimum-spend rules in every currency and the correct definition of basket value. Standard Medusa behaviour did not cover that exact requirement, so we extended it.5 min
- 07Country, language and markets in MedusaThe client needed language to remain separate from the country controlling prices, shipping and payment. We built that market layer with TanStack Start and Medusa regions.5 min
- 08International SEO for Medusa commerceThe client needed search engines to find the right Medusa market and language pages without indexing previews or contradictory variants. We built SEO into the TanStack Start market model.5 min
Storefront and operations
- 09Local-first wishlists in MedusaThe client wanted visitors to save Medusa products immediately, without turning a small expression of interest into compulsory registration. We built the simplest wishlist that fulfilled that promise honestly.5 min
- 10Variant-aware catalogue filters in MedusaThe client needed catalogue filters whose visible results respected colour, size, price and the card customers would actually click. We built a two-stage filtering and URL model around Medusa’s product search.6 min
- 11Reliable back-in-stock alerts in MedusaThe client wanted an unavailable product page to capture genuine purchase intent and bring customers back for the right variant. We built the subscription lifecycle Medusa inventory alone does not provide.5 min
- 12Email previews in Medusa AdminThe client’s team could not reasonably create refunds, invitations, waitlists and stock events in every language just to review their emails. We turned the project’s template catalogue into a Medusa Admin review surface.5 min
- 13Employee discount programmes in Medusa v2The client needed much more than a 20% coupon: employee identity, annual allowance, checkout rules, order history, support tools and a clean hand-off to Odoo. We built that programme on Medusa v2.8 min
